Indian lilac or neem is known for its medicinal properties. It is an antifungal, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic herb. You are required to make a paste of few neem leaves by adding a little quantity of water. Put some turmeric powder in the paste and mix it well. Gently apply the paste on the infected area. After it gets dried, rinse it off with warm water.
It’s especially good for cystic acne in women and body acne in men. “Oral vitamin A basically shuts down your sebaceous glands. If you suppress [them] for a long enough period, you can cure someone of their acne, and about 50 percent do hit that cure rate,” Dr. Linkner says. A course of isotretinoin can take about six to nine months. Sometimes patients need to repeat the course at a higher dosage in order to truly eliminate acne.
Acne (acne vulgaris, common acne) is a disease of the hair follicles of the face, chest, and back that affects almost all teenagers during puberty -- the only exception being members of a few primitive Neolithic tribes living in isolation. It is not caused by bacteria, although bacteria play a role in its development. It is not unusual for some women to develop acne in their mid- to late-20s.
Rubbing ice cubes on the face will decrease the size of acne and helps in healing the acne pain. You are required to take a few ice cubes and wrap them in a clean cloth. Now, rub it gently on the face, specially covering the infected area until the area becomes insensitive. If you have a lot of acne, you can hold ice for five minutes on the infected area. This will minimize the redness and inflammation of acne.
But the side effects of targeted breakout cream treatments aren’t always worth it. “So many products instruct consumers to use benzoyl peroxide spot treat red bumps and pustules. I don’t recommend it,” says Dr. Lawrence Green, board-certified dermatologist and assistant clinical professor of dermatology at George Washington University. Such high concentrations of benzoyl peroxide cause added irritation and inflammation to already sensitive skin, so with this in mind, we cut kits that included spot treatments.
Similar to a spot treatment, toothpaste can dry out your pimples in a matter of a few hours. Use classic white toothpaste instead of a gel formula and apply it to the pimple, leaving it on overnight. Fair warning: If you have sensitive skin, I would skip the toothpaste and go for a more gentle treatment, like the one above, since it can be harsh and irritate skin.
There are two big guns used to take down acne, and they're both great at doing entirely different things. Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid that comes from willow bark and works primarily as an exfoliator, breaking down fatty acids like sebum so your pores don’t clog. (Glycolic acid works similarly but is less effective.) These acids are effective on comedones — whiteheads, blackheads, and other non-red bumps.
How to Handle It: Your best bet is benzoyl peroxide. "Benzoyl peroxide can kill acne-causing bacteria and reduce inflammation," says Zeichner. Try a cream like the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo Dual-Action Acne Treatment ($37), which also exfoliates with lipo-hydroxy acid. Be aware that it can seriously dry out skin so moisturize well after you use it.
I have had cystic acne for about four years. I have been seeing a dermatologist for at least two of those years. It’s a long road, and one thing that I can absolutely guarantee does not help to treat acne in any way whatsoever is exercise. I know this because a) most dermatologists and doctors agree that if anything, exercise worsens acne; and b) I’ve been an athlete for most of my life – the harder I train, the worse my acne; and c) although I always wear clean lycra and shower straight after I finish my session, the acne on my back is in the shape of the cross-over straps of my sports bra.
Honey is known as the anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory agent and is one of the best home remedies for acne. It kills the infecting bacteria and prevents acne. For effective results, use it with cinnamon. Take some cinnamon powder and add honey to it to make a paste. Apply it on the face as a mask, covering the infected area. Leave it over night. Next morning, wash it off with water. It will help in getting rid of pimples from its roots.
There are different types of natural clay. You have to choose one as per your skin type. The different colors of clay indicate different minerals present in it which affect your skin in different ways. .. Brown clay contains amazing exfoliating properties but it is not good for dry skin. White and green clay are good for all skin types as they are gentle.
No one factor causes acne. Acne occurs when sebaceous (oil) glands attached to the hair follicles are stimulated at the time of puberty or due to other hormonal changes. Sebum (oil) is a natural substance that lubricates and protects the skin. Associated with increased oil production is a change in the manner in which the skin cells mature, predisposing them to plug the follicular pore. The plug can appear as a whitehead if it is covered by a thin layer of skin, or if exposed to the air, the darker exposed portion of the plug is called a "blackhead." The plugged hair follicle gradually enlarges, producing a bump. As the follicle enlarges, the wall may rupture, allowing irritating substances and normal skin bacteria access into the deeper layers of the skin, ultimately producing inflammation. Inflammation near the skin's surface produces a pustule; deeper inflammation results in a papule (pimple); if the inflammation is deeper still, it forms a cyst.
Oral acne treatment: These medications, which work internally, are prescribed when you have red, swollen pimples (acne cysts and nodules). They can come in different forms such as antibiotics (which kill bacteria and decrease inflammation), birth control pills (which helps with hormonal acne), and isotretinoin (commonly referred to as Accutane, even though that specific brand was discontinued).
